7 Rooftop Bars Locals Actually Go To

Fifth Avenue gets all the foot traffic, but the rooftops with real character sit a block or two back — where the crowd skews local and the drink prices haven't been marked up for tourists. We asked around, went out seven nights in a row, and came back with this list.

1. Caché Rooftop — Centro

Perched above Hotel Boutique Caché, right by the casino and the municipal palace downtown, Caché pairs Lebanese small plates with a genuinely social scene — sambousik and labneh next to a full bar, with a happy hour that runs Monday–Friday, 5–7PM. It's an easy after-work stop that turns into a proper night without much effort.

2. The Fives Rooftop — Centro

On top of The Fives Downtown Hotel on 10th Avenue, this is the polished one — infinity pool, Mediterranean-leaning menu, and craft cocktails that don't cut corners. Go for a day pass and stay through sunset; it fills in fast on weekends, so get there before the crowd does.

3. Roof 28 — Calle 28, Beachside

The rooftop at The Reef 28, a block off Mamitas Beach — infinity pool by day, DJ-driven lounge by night. Not staying at the hotel? There's a minimum spend (500 pesos weekdays, 700 Friday–Sunday), so treat it like a night out, not a quick drink.

4. Deck5 — Calle 8 & the beach

The only public rooftop right on the seaside, atop the Carmen Hotel. It's got a resto-bar feel by day and turns into pool parties and ladies' nights on weekends — worth timing your visit around whatever's on.

5. Thompson Rooftop — Calle 12 Norte

Open to the public and famous for a reason: a long heated pool, private cabañas, and a view over the whole city. It's a splurge kind of afternoon, but the golden-hour view earns it.

6. Be Roof — Gonzalo Guerrero

Fifth floor of the Be Playa Hotel, boho-chic and a little more laid-back than its neighbors — daybeds, a pool, and a live DJ often spinning house. A solid pick when you want the rooftop energy without the velvet-rope feel.

7. Clandestino Rooftop — 5th Avenue

The one that goes latest. Reggaetón, house, and electronica on 5th Ave with VIP tables and international DJs — this is where the night ends up, not where it starts.
